Basarab Nicolescu – a septuagenarian

I hold in my hand a book[1], coordinated by Petrisor Militaru and Luiza Mitu , which reveals in two hundred pages, yet short, a mistery that deepens more deeply with the passage of time : prof. Basarab Nicolescu; a book that tries to reveal little from our human universe that seems to be inexhaustible and impossible to be content fully in its whole becoming.

This tribute brought with the occasion of the seventeenth anniversary of Basarab Nicolescu gives the feeling of an adult diary; well structured, with self-portraits and friends opinions , interviews and characterizations, studies and thoughts, the book releases a familiar heat, hospitable, but it is , in the same time , a complex study that convinces you even from its own structure, because it reaches out to the most sensible and deep parts of a impressive personality.

The first chapter : “Undivided self-portrait” opens the way , initiates you and prepares you for your trip, with the safest method of presenting the subject : the self-portrait. The lines taken from Basarab Nicolescu’s work “the convinced lawyer of trandisciplinary reconciliation” strengthens and shapes the idea for the start of an investigation: “Who am I?…. The ones that can answer these questions are, for sure, my books” 2

The interviews in the second part: “Communication, particles and the world”, bring in the attention of the reader opinions, thoughts and experiences not so familiar maybe, bridges of access about the one that Luiza Mitu writes: “he has the capacity to establish ties not only between the most different disciplines, but mostly between people”3. It’s given here, to each reader the freedom of a full self-portrait: the mind of the physicist, philosopher, academician, father of transdisciplinarity, but especially the man Basarab Nicolescu, being the essential criteria in the attempt to discover him, to know him.

The book also offers an outside look, “in the friendship mirror” reflecting opinions, memorable situations, thoughts of his acquaintances, scholars, close people; every new point of view and every personal interpretation helps to construct a “whole”, paradoxically, under people’s different way of seeing. It confirms here, even more with each page read, a incontestable value of a man with a “natural curiosity to know the other” 3 as Luiza Mitu affirms. Emanuela Ilie confesses, remembering the first meeting with Basarab Nicolescu: “I

couldn’t feel any second the distance that his intelligence and culture owed him”4 and highlights at the same time a remarkable aspect , even more, at more occasions – a bright mind, a gold character -.The academician, Solomon Marcus affirms that the Romanian culture needs, like fresh air people as Basarab Nicolescu5, trying to sum up in few words many different situations, motives and truths.

The researcher of the Romanian Academy of Astronomy, Magda Stavinschi, starts her article by saying: “Basarab Nicolescu: man of science with a poets heart and philosopher thinking” 6 few words to sum up remarkably such a huge personality. Petrisor Militaru thinks that: “Basarab Nicolescu’s personal example shows that physics and poetry can meet” 7 bringing to light one more time a variable truth in the infinite universe of knowing.

Natural and with an overflowing realism, George Banu writes, perfect aware of the cause: “To speak about Basarab Nicolescu, makes the one that is trying to do it, to confront complexity”. 8

Going on with the fourth part “Levels of interpretation and faces of works”, the volume brings to hand for those interested studies targeting the transdisciplinarity concept and

its proper understanding. These are signed by: Pompiliu Craciunescu, Radu Constantinecu, Petre Raileanu, Adriana Teodorescu, Gabriel Nedelea, Marius Cristian Ene, Ionut Isac, Stefan Bolea and others.

His creation completes with a last chapter: “Meetings and photos”, in which were captured, in other way than words, revelatory moments, brought by original photos presenting Basarab Nicolescu between acquaintances and friends.

The anniversary volume “Basarab Nicolescu: into septenar” unleashes a high spirituality, knowing and being, without losing that feeling of familiarity, so necessary to attract and convince the reader, feeling brought from the deep and personal thoughts of all the people that wrote about the miracle of Romanian culture: Basarab Nicolescu.
